I love the Golf Channel! I watch it a LOT and I suggest
you do too. With ONE EXCEPTION!
The Golf Channel features tournaments, fireside chats with golfing personalities past and present,
workshops that explain how clubs are made, live tournament interviews, daily golf news, tournamments and great hosts.
All of that is great stuff.
Now, I can’t tell you what to do, but I can
tell you how what I did, almost ruined my game.
The Golf Channel ALSO does
a lot of instruction segments. They have a lot of "famous" instructors do those segments, all of whom
"seem" to know exactly what they're talking about. That's the "dangerous"
part.
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll remember then, that I am of the opinion that the golf swing
is over taught.
I don’t think enough time is spent teaching people how to “play” the game, and
too much time is spent teaching people swing mechanics.
If you listen to a lot of different teachers, all with
their own theories, which "sound" correct, you’re going to get yourself into trouble. Information overload will kill you.
You start to second-guess yourself and each successive teacher, because they all sound right. You will
start wondering if the last instructor was right or this instructor is right.
Worse yet, you may start worrying
if, in fact, the next instructor will be the one who holds the key to your success.
You end up like a kid in a candy store with a pocket full of money. It all looks so good that you end
up buying one of everything.
You ingest it all and make yourself sick. There’s a reason
why medieval royalty had servants taste their food before they ate it.
If the food was poisoned, the servant pays
the price and the King lives on.
To whit,
I provide you with the following little gem. While listening to a world famous and highly regarded golf
teacher on television (I won’t name names, but it rhymes with Hutch Barmon), I heard the following come from his lips:
“Your head is attached to your shoulders.”
On my mother’s life, he said that.
Excuse me? Correct me if I’m wrong; but I believe the human head is attached to the spine.
At least mine is.
So, who are you to believe? ME, of course.
The reason for that is, The ONE THOUGHT-ONE MOVE SECRET is ABSOLUTELY "mechanically"
correct and does what so many "theories" do NOT.
It takes into account that given a CLEAR and SIMPLE
way to accomplish a "physical task" and an understanding of exactly what needs to be done and WHY, YOU ALREADY INSTINCTIVELY
KNOW HOW TO DO IT!
Your mind and body do that all the time, every day! In fact, a correct, effective and
powerful golf swing may very well be the SIMPLEST thing you EVER DO!
What has
gotten you SO FAR off track is that everyone is so busy telling you "what to do" and fully 98% of that is stuff
you ALREADY know to do!
Start focusing on those things and you're in trouble! ONE THOUGHT
and ONE MOVE takes care of triggering EVERYTHING ELSE you need to do and you WILL!
Know who I LOVE?
Golfers who struggle with "slicing" the golf ball. They PROVE my contention!
First of all, "WORLD
FAMOUS" golf instructors, to a person, will tell you that you slice the golf ball because of an "over the top move"
in your swing and they STOP RIGHT THERE!
Many students are completely lost thinking, "Great! Thanks
for the info! I have NO IDEA what that means (yes, I do) and I have NO IDEA that I'm even doing it, but
thanks."
Golfers "slice" the ball for ONE REASON AND ONE REASON ONLY and it
has NOTHING to do with an "open clubface at impact!" At least not the
way you've been thinking it is.
Golfers who slice the ball, do, in fact, have a "swing
PATH" problem (over the top) but they make that move FOR A REASON and that's because INSTINCT (or as I like to call
it: "body sense") dictates that THIS IS THE CORRECT MOVE TO MAKE based on the input
their eyes and brain are "feeding" their body!
Therefore, they make that move INSTINCTIVELY! That's
why it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE for you to cure your own slice. Everything you are doing, "FEELS" right to
you (body sense) and in fact, it IS!
Slicing the golf ball is a "correct" result,
based on "correct" movements that are based on INCORRECT body-to- target alignment!
No worries though. YOU CANNOT slice the golf ball
with the ONE THOUGHT-ONE MOVE SWING! It's IMPOSSIBLE, because your SWING PATH
is absolutely correct when you do this!
You do NOT cure a slice with training
aids, "draw-biased" golf clubs, or ANYTHING ELSE! When you UNDERSTAND how to align your body correctly to
your target, YOU STOP SLICING because it no longer makes "body sense" to you to do
it!
In your purchase I tell you EXACTLY what's going on with your mind and body
if you're a "slicer" and once you understand WHY you slice, YOU'LL STOP! INSTINCTIVELY!
So, I'm either the SMARTEST golf teacher in the world, or there's
a REASON why no one has told you this before! More "lessons" equals more money
for golf teachers and magazine editors! That, is a shame.
That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about! You have to be careful who you trust and what
you believe.
There are many different "theories"
of swing a golf club. One is right for you. The problem arises when you begin to believe all are right
for you. They’re not.
Because all these teachers "sound" like their way is the
right way, it’s insidiously easy to start taking bits and pieces of each instructor’s theories, and try to incorporate
all of them into one, homogenous golf swing.
YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO DO IT! It’s just not possible.
Many of these theories are in direct conflict with each other! It’s extremely confusing and
can really hurt your chances of developing, or maintaining a good golf swing.
Now I assure you that the good people
at The Golf Channel are not deliberately trying to confuse you, but the amount of instruction they provide can be hazardous
to your golfing health if you’re not careful.
Be loyal to one instructor. Either you trust this person to be a part of your development
or you don’t. Don’t go searching for something better. You and your golf
instructor will have a relationship that is much like a marriage.
Both relationships require trust,
faith and loyalty. In both cases, searching for something better will get you in a lot of trouble!
You can trust me, or you can trust someone else. All I can assure you is that I have YOUR best
interest at heart.
I'm
not interested in becoming "rich" OR "famous." What I am and will be though, is HONEST and that's
good enough for me. When YOU start playing better golf, I'm happy and satisfied.
